The Toronto spring auctions showcased a strong performance by S.H. Raza, featured Torben V. Kristiansen’s legendary collection, and set new records for Takao Tanabe and Mary Pratt, marking a triumphant success.
Sayed Haider Raza, Temple Protestant, 1957, oil on canvas.
Raza’s works concluded the Cowley-Abbott Important Canadian & International Art session on an exceptional note, highlighting once more the significance of flawless provenance in the international sale of Indian artworks. The former painting is set to appear in a revised edition of S.H. Raza’s Catalogue Raisonné, Volume 1 (1958-1971), while the latter will be featured in S.H. Raza’s Catalogue Raisonné, Early Works (1940-1957), both authored by Anne Macklin for The Raza Foundation, New Delhi. Macklin also contributed the catalogue essays for these Raza pieces.
